A friend of mine has a son.

On paper, he’s a grown man.

His kindness, his brilliance, his loving creativity, his ability to heal people.
He has so many gifts and there is a beautiful light that shines through him.

But a funny thing happened on the way to growing up.
The older he got, the more his gifts and light were shrouded.

He couldn't seem to find his place in a world that values conformity over genius.
He was one of the "different" ones.
He always marched to his own beat... at his own pace.

When he couldn't find a place to belong in the world,
a place that valued him and his gifts...
it really, really hurt him.

For years, his family felt like they were holding their breath around him.
He became unstable, fragile, unpredictable, unhappy.
Everyone was afraid for him.

His mom is strong, successful, brilliant…
but, this situation was unbearable.

She loves him so much
She wanted so badly to demand that he “get it together.”
But whenever she did that...
the more pressured he felt.

Instead,
with my help,
and with practice,
she stopped pushing him to perform.

She started creating space for him to belong,
even in his mess.

A few months ago, she and I stood together in ceremony.
We lit a candle and spoke this prayer:

Come back to your body. Come back to your body.
Come back to your body. Come back to your body.

And slowly, like dawn breaking through fog... he has.
Not in a Hollywood montage kind of way.
But in the small, sacred, ordinary ways that actually last.

He’s clearer.
More grounded.
More alive.

And now, he’s moving to a new place where he feels like he belongs.

He is individuating.

Individuation is when...

  • your true self becomes the clearest and strongest voice in your psyche.
  • your inner voice of truth becomes strong enough to guide your life,
and gentle enough to invite others in.

That prayer was for him.

But honestly?

It’s for all of us.

Because so many of us ...
parents, partners, friends...
carry that same ache.

We watch the people we love hover outside themselves.
We fear they’ll never return.
And in the waiting, we forget how to come home too.

With a graduate degree in counseling and more than 30 years as a life and business coach,
I’ve sat with people in their darkest hours and in their brightest breakthroughs.

For the last 9 years, my obsession has been this:

How do we take the most sacred wisdom ...
the stuff that actually heals ...
and make it simple enough to live on your fridge?

Not just for professionals.
But for ordinary people:
parents, children, partners, friends.

It’s a living language of JOY ...

practical enough for everyday life,
playful enough to spark laughter,
powerful enough to heal a family.

This October, for the first time ever,
I’ll be training a select group of people to practice this language together.

It’s called Joy-Based Family.
6 weeks of gathering, learning, and belonging...
practicing what it means to create that sense of home inside yourself
and with the people you love most.

And when we do… the spark happens.
It doesn’t take everyone.
It only takes one.
One person says yes to their own soul ...
and the whole family begins to breathe again.

Parents stop bracing for impact.
Children stop shrinking to fit.
Siblings stop bracing for the next storm.
Families stop living like strangers.

Instead... life opens.
Laughter returns.
Love gets to breathe again.

Because it only takes one yes.
One person saying yes to their own soul.
That’s how families change.
That’s how worlds change.

This is why we designed a T-shirt for my dear friend's son.

A simple reminder,
soft cotton against skin,
carrying these words:

“Individuation in Process.”
Bright royal blue battery bars glowing with life.

And I’m getting one for myself too!
Because this gift isn’t just for him. It’s for all of us.

Because sometimes you need to wear the reminder:
I’m still here.
I’m still becoming.
I’m still rising.

And that reminder isn’t just for one son in one family.
It’s for all of us.

✨ One body.
One soul.
One yes at a time.

That’s how worlds change.

✨ So here’s your nudge, my friend…
If this story lit something in you ...
even the tiniest spark ...
follow it!
That spark is your soul saying yes.
